Can dogs and cats fit in the same room and be friends?

Despite many clichés, cats and the dogs can exist in the same environment and be friends, but it is also possible for them to seriously hurt each or sometimes even to kill each other. According to the experts, it is usually the dogs which causes the problem. The dogs are trained to chase anything that runs and it should be nipped in the bud. The cats are territorial.

The possibility, the dogs and cats to exist in the same habitat mostly depends on their past. The best chance would be to get them both at an early stage, when they grow along with each other; the possibility of getting along is more. You can also add a pet to already existing adult dog or cat, but you have to take certain things into consideration before choosing.

If you are going for a dog, it is advised to get an adult that has no problem with the felines. If you want to adopt a cat, it is best to get one that has experience with being around a canine. The last thing you want is a fleeing cat.

Sometimes you have to accept that some dogs are not meant to coexist with cats. If your dog has a prey drive then it is better to leave it alone.

• Make them comfortable with each other scent.
• Make them see others living place when the other one is not around.

• When introducing them, make sure the dog is on a leash.
